In 2016, after reading The Secret, I put a photo on my vision board: a microphone, a packed auditorium and hundreds of people listening.

People asked, “Why?” I was a Deck Officer at sea. Public speaking and leadership coaching sounded unrealistic.

But I knew one thing: If you can command a ship, you can teach leadership, and without communication, there is no leadership.

It wasn’t conventional.

It wasn’t easy.

But I chose possibility over probability.

And eventually, that vision became reality.

In the early days of Project DIG, our mission was straightforward: to visit schools and provide guidance to students considering careers in the maritime sector. However, as the project evolved, so did our reach and impact. What began as a grassroots effort to educate young people has now transformed into a dynamic social media presence and a widely recognized resource in Italy's maritime industry.

WHAT'S IT MEANS TO ME

The "Dreaming Big" project has been a crucial undertaking for me both personally and professionally. It required me to delve into various subjects like marketing, social media, newsletters, and public speaking to ensure its success.

Personally, it granted me the privilege of feeling part of something much larger, allowing me to help others achieve their dreams. This project has given me the understanding that true happiness lies in giving, not receiving.

When I'm 80 years old, old and weary, I will look in the mirror and ask myself if I did everything I could to make the world a better place. My answer will be a resounding yes.
